I would love to know the answer to this. I have two children of my own but have always wanted to give a deserving family the child that they are yearning for. Just don't know where to begin. Any advice out there??
I will share my feelings around why I decided to be a surrogate, to start the discussion going :)

I think that anyone who is wanting to be a parent should be given the opportunity to do so. As a parent I know the joy that children can bring to your life and that that joy is possible whether you are single or in a relationship. My journey lead me to being a surrogate after watching what friends and family have gone through trying to conceive, or being told they shouldn’t/couldn’t have children. Being able to have children is something that my body is able to do and does well, I have chosen to have no more children of my own, but would be honoured to help someone else have their dreams come true.

It's all about being about to share the joy that my children have brought to me, with someone who needs help to have their children come to them.
Very well said Meredith :)

That is really wonderful Meredith. What a blessing you are giving someone. I feel the same way. My husband is on board with my decision. Any advice on how to get started?

Hi Lisa,

When I made the definite decision that this was the next step in my life, (Family and friends were talked to first)I found forums online to talk to Surrogates, and IPs - and a lawyer to get his opinion regarding the laws and what I was doing. I discussed with the surros/IPs the pros and cons about going independent or with a consultant. Then I started talking to consultants..I made my own list from what I found out and decided that working with a consultant was the way I wanted my journey to go.

I don't think I should post here a link to who I am working with and why I am working with her, as I do not know if that is something that Marnie wants or not on the group. But I can PM it to you if you wish :)

Hello everyone,

For me becoming a surrogate was an easy decision for me.  After I saw our friends struggle for seven years and I had 2 unplanned pregnancies I couldn't just sit by and not help.  Once I had offered to carry a baby for her one final attempt at IVF for her before we started and she got pregnant!  I was so happy for her.  It was years later when my older sister became a surrogate that I thought why not help someone we didn't know.  I didn't mind being pregnant but I knew after baby 3 our family was complete.  To be able to help someone become a mom and dad is truly a mastercard commercial.  This costs that much and this costs that much but the second the baby(ies) is placed in their arms is truly truly priceless.  I cannot even being to put that moment into words.  I have been blessed to be able to help 2 families and about to embark on another journey.  I have made many friends along the way that are now like family to us and always will be.  Being a surrogate to me means I get to be a fairy God mother now and then and make dreams come true.

Julie...your comment about your journeys being like a MasterCard commercial...so very true! well said!

Being a surrogate to me means helping begin or complete a family.

I have watched family and friends suffer through infertility. I have a desire to help others and knew that surrogacy was one way I could give back.

I have completed two wonderful journies and starting the process of finding the right IP's for my final journey.

God has truly blessed me in my own life and now my family is able to help pass the blessings on to others!
