The transfer
It has been one huge "emotional roller coaster" this summer. I took a break from blogging because it has been such a crazy ride but here goes. Much to update.
Our surrogate was instructed to come stay at a hotel near our doctor. We weren't sure when the transfer would be but knew it was either Sunday or Monday. It ended up being Monday. We had 3 embryos that made it to blastocysts with a hand full of others a day behind. We head over to the doctors office preparing to tell…

Here We Go Again~
So here we go again...
Next thursday will be the 1st bloods for the 2nd transfer for my journey. I know what to expect this time and not as excited to tell the truth.
Am still very dedicated to this surrogacy and want nothing more for my friend to be a mum and to forfil her dream of a family with children but not keen on the oncoming early mornings, hormones and all that not so fun stuff.
Just keeping it in my head its all for a good cause and…

Dear IP's
Dear IP's,
Although the news wasnt what we all hoped for the past 2 weeks there is still hope, lots of hope that you (the IP's) created and are sitting waiting for us (embrios) to get back in there and to try again.
I know its sad and your not feeling so great right now but those feelings will fast disapear as you need to focus on the next few weeks where we are going to try again.. This cute little bubba thats waiting to join your…

From 11 to 9...
11 retrieved, 10 out of 11 fertilized and now we are down to 9 thriving. Still a great number.
My doctor is planning on waiting until they turn into blastocycsts before doing the transfer. That way she can evaluate the very best embryos that will have the best chance at implanting and turning into a pregnancy.
We love getting the morning report from our doctor. I always send a text to our surrogate with the positive updates. She is very excited for us and…

11 Eggs
So the retrieval went smoothly. My doctor tells me right away that of the 13 follicles I had she was able to get 11 eggs. Not a bad number! All we need is one good egg! The morning after the retrieval she calls me with results and tells me that all 11 fertilized. We are beyond happy. She will call me every morning and give me an update and let me know how they progress and when we can estimate the transfer will be.
Our surrogate is very anxious to know the transfer date.…

Waiting Game~
Wednesday 17/08/2011
So we are still on the 2WW, feels like 2 year wait i tell you. Ive never been one to be patient so this is really dragging on for me. Only 1 more day to go til the Blood Test tho that will tell us the results to the transfer.
All has been going great and nothing major to report except some random bouts of queezy morning sickness that comes when ever it feels like it, the term 'morning' sickness is abit of a fib as i get it day and night…

Would Be Surrogate Mothers Used In Human Trafficking Scheme
So as news trickles in and I read more information on the now well known Theresa Erickson 'baby selling ring' I see that theories give way to the facts. Reading the LA Times tonight gives us all the perfect insight to how Erickson and others…

A Tribute to Compassionate Surrogacy
Aren’t all women who volunteer to become surrogates/carriers considered “compassionate”? Most are but because money is involved the altruistic part is often overlooked and the focus becomes more financial. However, there are women out there who are willing to carry a baby for another couple/individual because…

Commercial or 'Paid' Surrogacy is STILL Not Legal in WA State
I know that many have been misinformed regarding WA state and the new laws. Commercial or Paid surrogacy is STILL not legal in WA state. I testified on the bill this year and last year. What happened is that the senate took everything surrogacy out of the HB 1267 bill and kept in the domestic partner portion in it and that is what passed. Here is a link of the summery to that…

When Surrogates are Used for Mega Profit~Protecting Yourself from a "Next Time" Crime
In light of what has happened with the Theresa Erickson case and the alleged "baby selling ring" I feel compelled to write something. Yes it was all very shocking and others have written long and eloquent blog posts. You can read two of them here; first from The Stirrup Queen and then take a look at the…

The Retrieval
I arrived at my doctors office at 6:30am sharp. I said goodbye to DH and he was instructed to go home, do his business at a certain time, and be back to pick me up.
I was very nervous. After all the anesthesia from my Asherman's surgeries I wasn't a fan of having it again. At least I wasn't at a hospital this time. Just a surgery center. My doctor held my hand when the anesthesiologist was putting in the IV line. I'm not squeamish about needles but she must have sensed my…

Hormones~
Wow! I dont recall being this highly strung on preg hormones with my boys. Im trying to really think back and i dont think i was too bad whilst preg with either. Yes i had the occasional cry at a sad tv show (we all do that) or a melt down over no milk or something trivial like that but nothing too major.
I dont think im crazy on the hormones at the moment enough to be admitted to a mental facility but i sure do notice the change in myself…

IVF day 12 of 14
It's been a rough two weeks. Daily ultrasounds and blood workups. Shots in the morning and at night. My stomach is so bloated I ironically look pregnant.
It's now my final appointment before the retrieval. Maybe the strangest of all appointments in the IVF process for me. It's the day I have my last ultrasound before the egg retrieval two days later. All the follicles look big and it seems as if my ovaries have met each other for the first time. Like twins separated at birth, my…

Surrogacy lawyers gone bad
This article is very disturbing. I actually spoke to Hillary Neiman last year about being my lawyer. She just pleaded guilty to being part of a baby-selling ring with other surrogacy lawyers in the states. I did not hit it off with her and I'm glad I used someone else who is terrific believes the bar is set too low in this industry.

The 2 Week Wait~
So we are on what they call the 'Two Week Wait' now where we have to wait for 2 weeks to pass before i go in for a blood test (yep another 4:30am start to get there at 630am for the test) to find out if this little one liked its new home and decided to stay put (all fingers. toes and legs crossed please!).
Its only day 3 into the wait and im counting down the days allready so i can imagine what the IP's calender looks like with circles and scribble all over it for dates and…

Gonal F, Menapur, and syringes ...oh my!
Well the egg stimulation protocol has begun. After my baseline ultrasound and blood work are done I sit with my doctor in her office. She explains that everything looks good. No cysts and pulls out a bag full needles and vials.
She takes one bottle of one drug, which is still in powder form, and explains how I take a needle of saline and insert the contents into the one vial, then suck it back in and insert it into another vial of powder. And that's how I make my dose. She…

After my last miscarriage, in May 2011 (7weeks) my doctor has given me the green light to try to conceive- this is pretty scary. THe conceiving is ok- its the not losing it part that makes me super nervous. My ob says after he confirms it is a viable pregnancy and has not attached itself to the scaring (the last time it did) then He will start me on progesterone. Does anyone know of any side effects to it? has anyone been through this? any advice would be great.
