Today begins National Infertility Awareness Week, April 22-28. The theme last year had to do with busting an infertility myth. This year it's Don't Ignore Infertility. NIAW asks that people help raise awareness "to educate millions of people about a disease that is often overlooked and misunderstood by healthcare professionals, the government, insurance companies, the media, and even friends and family members."
Resolve.org ask you to participate in one of the many ways to help raise awareness by blogging about it, attend Resolve's Advocacy Day, and many other ways. Be part of a revolution to break down the stigma of infertility and educate those who don't understand!
The timing of their pregnancy announcement couldn't have been better. Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill announced on the Today Show this morning that they are FINALLY expecting a baby through a gestational carrier. Giuliana has been raising awareness of her infertility via her show on The Style Network: Giuliana & Bill. It has been documenting her journey with infertility and battle with breast cancer.
They had two embryos left over from her last IVF cycle but because of her cancer diagnosis and treatment, it would not be safe for Giuliana to be the carrier of these embryos. Isn't surrogacy just so damn coo!? And aren't surrogate just so awesome!?
Giuliana Rancic: "We're having a baby!"
Giuliana stated that they are due end of the summer which puts her due date very close to mine. This makes her at least 20 weeks along in the pregnancy if not more. It's not surprising to me that she waited this long to go public with this news. I'm sure they wanted to wait until the BIG 20 week scan and make sure everything was all right with baby Rancic. Someone who has dealt with infertility for so many years I'm sure is as nervous and worried as most intended mothers. It's more natural for us to feel a sense of worry than confident that everything will just be perfect, because it hasn't been for so many years.
Congrats to the intended parents!
Maybe G and I could meet up for a baby yoga class in the Fall. Wouldn't that be cool. You never know! She is from my town!
Tune in to Style tomorrow night at 8/7c for the next episode and see how they found out there is a bun...in someone's oven! I can't wait to watch all the details.
